You can reach Australia Zoo without a car: take the Sunshine Coast line train from Brisbane to Landsborough, then the Translink bus from the station to the zoo. Queensland public transport fares are a flat 50 cents, so the trip costs almost nothing, but zoo tickets are separate. Buses are roughly every two hours, so check the timetable.
