88 days, straight answers
What counts as specified work for the 88 days?
For the 417 visa: plant and animal cultivation (picking, packing, pruning, stock work and more), fishing and pearling, tree farming and felling, mining, and construction, done in an eligible regional postcode and paid at proper rates. 462 holders have a few extra categories, like tourism and hospitality in northern and remote Australia.
Does my postcode count?
Use the postcode checker on this page for a quick answer from the Home Affairs regional list. All of South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory count. The ACT and most capital-city postcodes do not. Always confirm on the official list before you take the job.
Do weekends and days off count?
If you work full-time (the normal full-time hours for that job), every calendar day in that period counts, weekends included. If you work part-time or casual, only the days you actually worked count.
Do the 88 days have to be with one employer, or in a row?
No. You can split them across employers, industries and states, and they don't need to be consecutive. Each block just has to be eligible work in an eligible postcode, with proof.
I'm from the UK. Do I still need 88 days?
Since 1 July 2024, UK passport holders on a 417 visa no longer need specified work for a second or third Working Holiday visa. Everyone else still does, so check the rules for your passport.
What proof should I keep?
Payslips for every pay period, the employer's name and ABN, the workplace postcode and your dates. Payslips matter most: Immigration can check them against tax records.
