Does my postcode count for the 88 days?

Checked against Home Affairs on

Short answer

It depends on the state. Every postcode in South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory counts for farm work, while Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia only count the regional postcodes on the Home Affairs list, which leaves out Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth (checked 2 November 2026). Tourism and hospitality work counts only in Northern Australia and remote postcodes, for example Cairns, Airlie Beach, Broome and all of the Northern Territory.

Common follow-up questions

Does the ACT or Canberra count for the 88 days?

No. The ACT is not on the regional list, so farm or construction work in Canberra does not count. The only exception is declared bushfire recovery work, which has its own list of areas.

Are the 417 and 462 postcode lists the same?

Yes. On 2 November 2026 the Home Affairs specified work pages for the 417 and the 462 visa carried the same regional, Northern Australia and remote postcode lists. The 462 has a few extra rules on the types of work, so read the page for your visa.

Whose postcode matters?

The postcode of the place where you actually do the work, not the employer's office or your hostel.
