Matey User Terms

These are the terms between you (a traveller using Matey) and Tech Yoda Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, trading as Matey, operating Matey at matey.fun. By creating an account or using the platform, you accept them. They are written in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email ben@techyoda.uk.

1. What Matey is

Matey is a companion platform for backpackers and working holiday makers: farm and job info, hostel and spot listings, guides, and ways to connect with other travellers. It is a community and information service, not an employer, agent, or booking service.

2. Free service

Matey is free for the first 1,000 backpackers who join, and stays free for those members forever. After that, pricing may apply to new members. If pricing is ever introduced, it will only affect people who join after the change, and it will be clearly shown before anyone pays anything.

3. Acceptable use

Be a good mate. You agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
• Send spam, run scams, or mislead people.
• Post content that is unlawful, hateful, or sexually explicit.
• Impersonate someone else or provide false information about yourself.
• Scrape, resell, or misuse the platform's data or other users' details.

Keep the information you post accurate, especially anything other travellers might rely on (farm reviews, job tips, meetup details).

4. Your content

You own everything you post: photos, reviews, messages, profile info. By posting it, you give Matey a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, resize, and reproduce that content on matey.fun and in the Matey app so the service can work. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups for a short period.

Only post content you have the rights to, and get consent before posting photos of other people.

5. Moderation and appeals

Users can report content or accounts. If something is reported or flagged, we may temporarily restrict the account or hide the content while we review it. Serious cases (scams, harassment, exploitation) can lead to permanent removal. If you think we got it wrong, email ben@techyoda.uk and we will review it. We aim to respond within a few days.

6. Your account and deletion

Keep your login details safe; you are responsible for activity on your account. You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Deletion removes your profile and content as described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Meeting people and using info

Matey helps travellers find each other and find work, but every interaction is between you and the other person. Meet strangers carefully: meet in public places first, tell someone where you are going, and trust your instincts. Matey does not vet users and is not responsible for what happens between users, online or offline.

Farm, job, and listing information is provided on a best-effort basis. We work hard to keep it accurate and verified where we can, but conditions, pay, and availability change fast in the real world. Always confirm details directly with the employer or business before relying on them.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, Matey provides the service as-is and is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from interactions between users or from reliance on user-posted or third-party information. Because the service is free to you, our liability, where it cannot be excluded, is limited to resupplying the service.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, EU consumer protection law, or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement. If you are an EU consumer, you keep all mandatory protections of your home country.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Matey after that means you accept the update. If you do not agree, you can delete your account at any time.
