Matey Partner Terms

Last updated: 1 September 2026

These are the terms between you (a business partnering with Matey) and Ben Jehan, sole trader, operating Matey at matey.fun. By ticking "I agree to the Partner Terms" when you sign up, claim a page, or send a partner enquiry, you accept them.

We have kept these short and in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email ben@techyoda.uk and we will sort it out.

1. Who this covers

Any business with a presence on Matey: hostels and other accommodation, farms, visa and tax agents, insurers, banks, transport operators, tour and activity providers, trainers, and anyone else with a listing, ad, or activity on the platform.

2. Your information must be accurate

You are responsible for the information in your listing: your business name, credentials (ABN, MARA or TPB registration where relevant), prices, pay rates, availability, contact details, and anything else you provide. Keep it accurate and up to date. Backpackers make real decisions based on it, so honesty is the whole deal.

3. Licence to display your content

When you give us content such as text, logos, photos, or offers, you keep ownership of it. You give Matey a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, resize, crop, and reproduce that content on matey.fun, in the Matey app, and in Matey's own marketing of the platform, for as long as your listing is live. You confirm you have the rights to everything you provide. The licence ends when your content comes down, except for copies in backups or already-printed material.

4. Free and paid services

A basic accommodation listing is free, and stays free.

Paid tiers, ads, view credits, and activity listings are billed through Stripe at the prices shown on matey.fun or in your partner dashboard at the time you buy. Prices are in Australian dollars and may change for future billing periods; we will show you the new price before it applies to you. Founding-partner pricing is locked for the period stated when you sign up. Credits are a prepaid balance, are not refundable once spent, and have no cash value.

5. Messaging travellers

Travellers' inboxes are not a marketing channel. Travellers can always message you free. You can reply free within 24 hours of a traveller's last message (or within 7 days of them applying to one of your jobs). Outside those windows, starting or reopening a conversation costs credits. Unsolicited or repeated messaging that travellers report as spam can lead to messaging limits or removal under section 7 (Removing listings).

6. Ending the relationship

Either of us can end this arrangement at any time, for any reason, with no notice period. You can cancel a paid plan from your dashboard or by emailing us. If you cancel partway through a paid period, that period runs to its end and is not refunded pro-rata, unless a refund is required by law (including the Australian Consumer Law). We do not charge you again after cancellation.

7. Removing listings

We can edit, suspend, or remove any listing, ad, or activity if we reasonably believe it is inaccurate, misleading, unlawful, or abusive, or if it harms backpackers or the platform. Where practical we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix it. Serious cases (fake credentials, exploitation of workers, scams) come down immediately.

8. What Matey is and is not

Matey is a directory and marketing platform. We connect your business with working holiday makers; we are not a party to any booking, employment, or sale between you and them. You are responsible for your own services, your compliance with the law (including workplace and consumer law), and your dealings with travellers.

9. Liability

To the extent the law allows, Matey's total liability to you under these terms is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. If your service was free, our liability is limited to resupplying the service. Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement.

10. General

We may update these terms; if we do, we will post the new version at matey.fun/partners/terms and material changes will be flagged to active paid partners by email. Continuing to use Matey after that means you accept the update. These terms are governed by the laws of Australia.
